Max Pieriboni, stand-up comedian and author, has written exclusively to the Readers of JMIAS.com
Max Pieriboni was born in the province of Varese (Italy) in 1970, stand-up comedian with a thousand faces and disguises, he makes his official debut in 2005, when he decides to tread the stage personally after having written monologues and created characters. His first performance is at the 'Party Time' in the province of Novara (Italy), where he acts in a duo named 'I Mika a Posto' (Not Really Sane). Since January 2006 he decides to pursue a solo career and attends many workshops in northern Italy, until he carries out his dream, to meet the well-known maestro Renato Converso. Under his severe and watchful glance, the 26th of January 2006 he has an audition at the 'Corte dei Miracoli' (Court of Miracles) in Milan, obtaining compliments and encouragements. A giant figure (1.90m x 120kg!) that does not pass unnoticed to the audience even for a sincere liking and simplicity by which he is able to bind with people. Those who know him say that he is a nice guy, but no one must get him angry... He is also unpredictable in particular situations, he would be able to show up wearing only a leopard-skin loincloth in front of the Queen of England! His humour is intended for an audience of every age and he likes to exasperate the situations of common life, trapping them in his desperate characters. His models of artistic life are Carlo Verdone, Leslie Nielsen, Renato Converso, Luciana Littizzetto and Raul Cremona. He actively collaborates with many artists and does not disdain to appear with them in improvised parodies. At present, in addition to the stage, he continues to write roles as an author for himself and other comedians. He still performs on the legendary stage of the 'Corte dei Miracoli' together with his maestro and the guest artists. The year 2008 marks for him two very important artistic debuts. In September he passes the selections for 'Zelig' and takes part to 12 dates with the 'Zelig Lab Tour', starting from the city of Varese, until reaching the official workshop of Viale Monza in Milan. In the early summer he is invited to perform on the stage of the 'Caffè Teatro Cabaret' (Coffee Theatre Cabaret) in Samarate (Italy), a place where are born comedians like Aldo, Giovanni and Giacomo as well as many others, beginning in this way to effectuate some events. In October 2008 he joins the cast of 'Colorado'. "Dear Readers of JMIAS.com, I would like to begin telling you about my artistic life, because it has been somehow a little fairy tale. In fact I have started from nothing, managing to be on television after six years of daily effort and preparation, fulfilled during the moments allowed by my working activity. I hope this may be an encouragement to all the people that believe in their own dreams, carrying out their ideas and passions with stubbornness. Regarding the year 2012 I have been reconfirmed for the television programme 'Colorado', in which I will continue with this adventure performing my character Jason from 'Friday the 13th', also developing further subjects and proposals. I keep on working for my professional growth even as a monologist, since I do not disdain to alternate someday this artistic aspect with the interpretation of my characters. From October, every Thursday evening I manage the 'Goodfellas Pub', a comedy workshop that is giving me a great satisfaction, featuring a large number of comedians and colleagues from 'Zelig', 'Colorado' and not only. I am travelling the whole Italy with my live performance that includes monologues and characters already seen on television, in addiction I am always willing for charity shows and nonprofit organisations to help less fortunate people. Thanks to JMIAS.com and a hug to all of you." Roberto De Marchi, actor, comedian, stand-up comedian and presenter, has written exclusively to the Readers of JMIAS.com
In 1985 Roberto De Marchi has moved his first steps in the stand-up comedy on the stage of two historical pubs in the city of Milan, the 'Derby Club’ and the 'Ca' Bianca’. After the 2nd place at 'Loano Cabaret’ festival, he took a part in the well known television program 'Drive In’ by A. Ricci and in 1986 he took the 5th place, 1st of the stand up comedy performers in the young group of comedians suggested by Pippo Baudo in 'Fantastico 7’. In that period he is the co-protagonist in the film 'Tango Blu’ by A. Bevilacqua. After that he takes part as regular guest for the TV programs 'Jeans’ and 'Avanti Senza Spingere’, and for 'Rete 105 Network’ records a single, attending several radio programs. After a long period of absence from the stage which took him nearly to became a monk, in '97 he comes back officially in the showbiz with an appearance as a guest in the 'Festival Nazionale del Cabaret 1997’ and taking part in the program 'Paperissima Sprint’ with the group of comedians suggested by the Festival to A. Ricci. For his performance in the show, he has been awarded by the TV reviewers with the prize 'Stella d'Argento’ as a comedian character revelation of summer '97. In 1998 he is the presenter of the Festival and in the summer of the same year he takes part in 'Doppio Lustro’ on Canale 5. He has won the 'Top Cab’ prize in '97-'98, during the festival 'Cabaret in Edizione Speciale’ in Turin. He becomes the official comedian of the Tour GM. 2000 'Radio 101 Moda Show’ with Nathalie Caldonazzo. 2001 'Radio MonteCarlo Moda Show’ with Luisa Corna. 2002 '105 in Alta Quota’ with F. Proce, Eleonora Benfatto and many singers from SanRemo. The 19th of August 2003 Roberto, together with other 9 comedians, sets in Andora the record for 35 hours no-stop on stage '35 Ore per Ridere... la Settimana Corta’ accepted by the 'Guinness World Records' society. In September he passes the casting for the TV show 'Bulldozer’ and goes on air with the program 'Pezzi di Ricambio’ on Rai 2. He joins 'Bulldozer’ with the character 'Dario il Volondario’, in 2004/5 and in 2006/7 he takes part in the cast of Telenova’s channel for the program 'Lista d’Attesa’. In 2005 he is in the cast of 'Colorado Café Live’ on Italia 1, presented by Rossella Brescia and Carla Signoris. In 2006 he is the protagonist together with Marisa Rampin and co-author of the program on Play Tv 'Una Vacanza alla Ricerca del Tesoro’, the first ever made sit com documentary, 2006 'Dammi il 5’ with A. Ribas on Telenova. In 2007 he is one of the guests on Rai 2 for the 'Festival del Garda’ with Katia Ricciarelli, Giancarlo Giannini, Vittorio Sgarbi, and thanks to the very good audience, the day after the festival he has been added to 'Blob’ on Rai 3. In 2009 he is among the protagonists in a revolutionary movie, completely filmed from just only one vision with no cameras cut off. Titled 'Secondo Tempo’, it tells the story about an informer hidden among the supporters and all the fights which happen during the second half between two factions of Ultras. His character is the 'Leader Animator of choreographies and chants’ (the movie has being out on Italian cinemas in March 2010). Also in 2009, he is one of the protagonists of the candid camera for 'Telethon’ on Rai network. In 2010 he is in the TV show 'Festa Italiana’ on Rai 1 presented by Caterina Balivo and he is one of the comedians in the program 'Derby Cabaret’ on La7 Gold... and as they say in Spain 'Buenas Vista!’. From the newspaper 'La Stampa' Roberto De Marchi is considered one of the greatest performer of the explosive nonsense-foolish humour, made with Calembour, clowning, objects used in a wrong way, dentures as railing, mad hair styles, horrible poetries and impossible paintings. Dario Fo', watching him during an exhibition of stand-up comedy has said: "This is the best". The critic Alter Bactaer has written: "His humor is the cause of a very contagious epidemic disease of laughs. You have to try it anyway, almost one time, as the chickenpox, but very, very, very much more funny". Dear Readers of JMIAS.com, starting from October you will be able to enjoy 'The Cabarettosto', the first stand-up comedy program on paper! Planned and led by me, Roberto De Marchi. This is a 6-episode project included in the monthly magazine 'Elleci Magazine' (supplement of the newspaper 'Il Giorno' in the province of Lecco). It is a project of comic strips like Lupo Alberto, though it is not drawn but made with comedians' photos and presented by 'Testa di Biip!' (Beep's Head!), a fluttering head sustained by the co-host, Marika Fruscio. To the question "Who are the comedians?", I replied: "I have called all very good comedians but not 'of great relief', otherwise I would have had to realize a 3D Cabarettosto! Marika is already a big problem..." We have had great fun making this project! With the participation of Luca Elias, Davide Colavini, Carletto Bianchessi, Eugenio Chiocchi, il Gomitolo, Danilo Vizzini, Samuel Brocherio, Riccardo Mazzoli, Omar Pirovano, Gianni D'Angella, Luca Anselmi, Carol Visconti and Daniela Di Muro. Presented by Roberto De Marchi and Marika Fruscio. As of November 2009 John Peter Sloan (chosen from more than 40 comic actors) is performing the original English version at the teatro Derby in Milan. Defending the Caveman is the longest running solo play in Broadway history. The wildly popular comedy, written by Rob Becker, has become a peacemaker in the ongoing misunderstandings between men and women. People all around the world LOVE Defending the Caveman! It has won the hearts of millions in more than thirty countries and is performed in over fifteen different languages. Caveman originally opened in San Francisco in 1991 and soon moved to Dallas. After a year in Dallas Caveman went on to sold-out engagements in Washington DC, Philadelphia and Chicago, before opening on Broadway in 1995. After running two and a half years, playing 702 performances at the Helen Hayes Theater, Caveman entered the record books as the longest running solo play in Broadway history. The "outrageously funny and surprisingly sweet exploration of the gender gap" (Chicago Sun-Times) has made Defending the Caveman "a comic phenomenon." (New York Times) Caveman is a hilariously insightful play about the ways men and women relate that has both sexes roaring with laughter and recognition. In the audience, lots of affectionate nudging goes on during the performance and couples are commonly seen strolling out into the night holding hands. Caveman also has a loyal following in the therapy community, having been seen and recommended by thousands of psychologists and counselors. Coming from a background in stand-up comedy, Rob Becker wrote Defending the Caveman over a 3-year period during which he made an informal study of anthropology, prehistory, psychology, sociology and mythology. Rob lives in a small town in northern California with his wife, Erin, and their three children. With hilarious insights on contemporary feminism, masculine sensitivity and the erogenous zone, Defending the Caveman mines the common themes in relationships that go straight to the funny bone.
